Artist Statement
My paintings are the result of a painting process that mirrors the contradictory forces of growth and decay. Paint is repeatedly applied, scraped away, reapplied. Images arise from this ongoing interaction with the work in progress. The resulting paintings are gestural, intuitive, often multi-layered; like the eroding surfaces of the earth, they reveal traces of their own history.
Painting is an expression and exploration of my connection to the earth and its cycles. The world around me, both man-made and natural, provides a constantlychanging source of visual stimulation. My work has deep roots in the physical environment
